The portraits for the Facing Change exhibition were taken by Ruth Medjber www.ruthlessimagery.com. Ruth was born in Marino, Dublin to Irish/Algerian parents. She graduated from D.I.T. with a BA Hons. in Photography. Her work has been exhibited extensively in Ireland as well as Internationally. She cut her teeth in Hot Press magazine before moving on to NME and now works freelance from her studios in London and Dublin. Her photography is featured in the likes of Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, The NME, Rolling Stone, Rock Sound, Terrorizer and Classic Rock among others. Her portfolio includes Metallica, Beyoncé, Madonna, Muse, Green Day, Jay-Z and many more. Among many other projects, Ruth is undertaking an ongoing Personal Photographic Project ‘Women Of Notes’ in which she photographs the inspiring women of the Irish music industry and celebrates their successes and achievements.

Genio commissioned Ruth for this exhibition due to her ability to capture individual personalities and stories within her portraits and for her person-centred and collaborative approach. She worked with each person to identify a location for the portrait that is meaningful to them and, where possible, provided them with a remote-controlled trigger which enabled them to have as much agency over the process as possible and take their own picture. The pathway through the exhibition opens with 76 individual landscape vignettes. These not only reflect the geographic journey taken by the photographer when meeting the 10 individuals featured in the portraits, but also echoes the light and dark, hopes and challenges of their personal stories.
