Dr Fiona Keogh, Genio

This podcast features Dr Fiona Keogh, Director of Reseach and Evidence, Genio outlining the key learning from 54 projects which have been supporting people with disabilities and mental health difficulties to move, usually from institutional settings, to live self-directed lives of their choosing in their local communities. The focus is on describing the implementation learning that has taken place; how this happens in practice; and the factors which lead to and support positive outcomes for the individuals.

This podcast features Dr Richard Wynne, Work Research Centre discussing the findings of a study which documented and evaluated the activities and outcomes of 15 projects funded by Genio in 2012. The projects intended to explore alternative ways of meeting the work, education, training and recreation needs of young people with disabilities through mainstream services, and be located in ‘real’ community settings.

This study features Professor Roy McConkey discussing a further data uplift on the study 'An evaluation of personalised supports to individuals with disabilities and mental health difficulties'  which was published in 2013. This follow-up study enabled the longer-term impact of a move to independent living to be established as well as the impact on those individuals who had only just moved at the end of the initial study.
