1st June 2018

Over the past seven years Genio has developed a range of training courses in SSDL approaches. In 2017, the SSDL Practitioner Training achieved accreditation at QQI level 6 (40 credits) through Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). Our first group of 24 accredited SSDL students graduated in April 2018.

The SSDL Practitioner Training programme is designed to enhance the competencies of practitioners within disability services, including frontline workers and those in leadership and change agency roles. This training will take place over 9 months and will involve 14 days of training divided between five modules. This amounts to approximately 100 contact hours comprised of traditional classroom teaching, personal reflection, and small group work activities.

Class sizes will be limited to approximately 15 participants (except for Modules 1 and 5 which will be larger groupings). Additionally, participants are expected to engage in practical work consisting of a minimum of six hours a week for the duration of the course, amounting to approximately 180 hours. Practical work includes a combination of additional reading, application of the learning in conjunction with a ‘learning partner’, and preparation of assignments to be presented during subsequent modules.

Candidates are required to answer written questions as part of the application process. The deadline for applications was 29th June 2018. A follow up telephone interview may be required if there are areas requiring clarification. Places will be offered based on suitability of applicants against criteria outlined in the SSDL brochure. Successful applicants will be offered places in July.
