Background
The policy context for the provision of services and supports to people with disabilities has been described in detail following the recent publication of several reports; the Congregated Settings Report, the New Directions Review of Day Services, the report on Respite/Residential Care with Host Families in Community Settings and the Disability Policy Review.
Recent reports and policy proposals in disability describe a model of service provision which is very different to current provision, with a focus on individualised supports and services to be provided which support people with disabilities to live full independent lives in the community, included as active participating citizens.
Grant allocation
€3m has been allocated to Genio from the HSE Disability Care Group on a recurring basis to facilitate the reconfiguration of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities, and people with intellectual disabilities, towards individualised services and supports. This funding is being allocated across five streams (see Applications 2012). This was a further call to the earlier grant stream in May 2012 for school leavers, which was undersubscribed.
Assistance
Briefings were held in Mullingar, Galway and Cork on 25th and 26th July to provide information for potential applicants. If you were unable to attend these events or would like a copy of the presentation click here to download the presentation slides now.
